I felt this was a bit boring at first, but the more I listened the more intrigued I got. I felt some of the race/queer intersection with royalty issues were forced or maybe overly stated in such a way it felt like it was being spelled out too much for the reader. The plot twists the last 2 hours of the book made this read worthwhile. If you’re looking for family drama, suspense, and mystery with characters that are black, queer and royal, then this YA pick could be for you.

I'm very conflicted about how this book 'resolved'. (Did it resolve??) I'm also slightly confused as to how the Big Bad knew about a Very Important Fact. All in all though, this was very bingeable, even if I did at one point have to stop reading to physically facepalm after intensely disagreeing with the MC.

(This also felt very surreal to read so soon after the death and intense public mourning of Queen Elizabeth II...)

Full RTC!

I did like this even though I don’t read much YA anymore but I think the pacing was slow and I wasn’t the biggest fan of the big twist. However I enjoyed reading from the pov of a black queer character
