I really enjoyed Viola and Devin's story! Sure, she got over her painful shyness awfully easily (is all one needs to do it a conflict with a bossy duke? OK, I'd be willing to give it a try...) but honestly, I just loved their courtship. Of course she was ridiculously wrong for the vicar and of course she really is a Wilde--it was lovely watching Devin as he slowly managed to convince her of both.

Not my favorite of the series. I liked the lead characters just fine. This book wasn’t as humorous as others in the series. There also didn’t seem to be a real conflict that happened.
A perfectly charming historical romance - set in the Georgian era, which is a little earlier time period than most of the historicals I read, so it was a bit of an adjustment to envision the characters with powdered wigs and panniers, but that's not too big of a deal. This is the fifth in a series and I haven't read any of the others, but I don't think I really lost out on anything despite that. This was just a pleasant world to escape to for a few hours, with mostly likable characters who mostly like each other, and no huge drama or conflict. Even the Big Secret is kind of silly and resolved in one conversation, so this is what you'd call a low-conflict book, which I enjoy very much in These Uncertain Times.
(2020 summer romance bingo: "their nose was broken once but it only makes them more handsome." Could work for "set on island," technically, since it's in England, or "meddling matchmakers," but the ball in this book is in April, so sadly no midsummer ball.)

I love The Wildes of Lindow Castle series and look forward to each book. This story centers on Viola and her shyness. The best part of the story for me is seeing what a strong woman Viola is underneath of shyness. I also loved Mrs. and Miss Pettigrew. Those characters were so interesting!
Thank you for the ARC. This was my honest review.

I blame Juliette and Jessen from the Smart Women Read Romance podcast for this read - as soon as I listened to their podcast on this one, I searched for the book because I had to read it just then. (When people I respect speak of a book with such enthusiasm, I have to read it. Or add it to the ever-growing TBR.) I knew I had a copy because I bought it on a whim at Target months before and dove right in as soon as I found it. I could not put it down... at least until I got to the last conflict. I knew that it had to happen and saw it from a mile off, but damn if it didn't break my heart that the hero had to go through it. And Viola? Loved her so much - once she was able to be comfortable and come out of her shell she was one strong woman who went after what she truly wanted as soon as she realized what that was. I've got to say that our H/h's meeting is one of my all time favorites and it was the PERFECT set up to the book. I came away wanting to know more and did eventually dive into the rest of the series.
This book has very little external plot. It’s really about the relationship between the hero and heroine. I enjoyed just how much Devin, Duke of Wynter, was into Viola and committed to winning her heart. Once he realizes what a treasure she is, he is in it to win it (as they say).
