A good book, but a bit too heavy on meta-religious mysticism for me.
adventurous medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes

Minus points for constant allusions to the future sexual relationship between characters currently aged 27(ish?) and 12. Also the pacing isn't great and the chapters not in Raul's pov are consistently more interesting. World building is so engaging and creative though and I hear the next one is the best so I'm excited for it.

Probably the weakest link out of the Hyperion books I’ve read so far but still great! This stupid series has me by the neck helpppp

I get why some people take issue with Simmons doing some minor retconning, but everything else about it is great. For introducing an entirely new cast, it manages to be suck you in and stay as fascinating as ever. Highly enjoyed the twists and turns, and I already have Rise of Endymion ready to rip.

See review for #1. Now THIS is the book that I enjoyed the most, which is contrary to most people's opinions, apparently.

This book contrasts the others in being a more straight-up adventure: the hero plummets through a series of fantastic worlds linked to each other by the chain of warp gates mentioned in the previous books. Many of these are so wonderful and memorable I still think of them from time to time, like floating for weeks on end through the upper atmosphere of a gas giant.

It also has an epic, post-human ending befitting the epic Hyperion saga as a whole. Look, 'epic' is so cliché by now, it's important to remember what actually *is* epic, and this is it.

I loved it, and hope to re-read someday.

Thoroughly enjoyed this next installment. Once again a very different style to the previous 2 books in the series. Epic landscapes and adventures ensue throughout! Would highly recommend.

Dang, who could've guessed the church would be evil?
