This read is not my usual cup of tea but I'm a open- minded kind of girl. This book is twisted with a bang and I literally mean with a bang in both ways. Haha I love it! I love a strong female character and Ellie is my girl. Day time normal and hire assassin at night. I'm excited to see what is next for Ellie and her dear friend.

The Huntress by Dawn Robertson and Kristen Hope Mazzola

Erotic Thriller/Suspense. Part 1 of 3.

Disclaimer from blurb:
Dawn and Kristen want to warn you: this is not for the faint of heart! But if gore, violence, and extreme sexual situations are your cup of tea, this is the read for you.

Well, honestly that kind of warning would normally turn me away from a book, because honestly, I prefer a happy book, but then I think of some of my old favorites, especially the old paranormal books I have read and gore and violence are nothing compared to zombies ripping hearts out, right? What was really out of my comfort zone in The Huntress was the fact that it's part 1 of 3. But Dawn Robertson and Kristen Hope Mazzola have been on my TBR list for so long, and I have only read short stories from them, so this is a great way to kill two birds with one stone...haha, kill being the operative word.

Ellie was rescued as a young girl from her drunk driving mother by a police officer who placed her with a very wealthy friend who could give her anything she wanted. She was raised by the handsome playboy millionaire, Theo McGuire, and a loving caretaker. Theo was above the law in many ways, and he had more of a friendship than a father/daughter relationship with Ellie. But Ellie spent years fantasizing about marrying him, and when she was of age, they both started having other fantasies. But this isn't a step daddy book, and those fantasies could never leave the confines of their home since they are known to all as father and daughter.
"Our relationship is an odd one for sure...It's a mixture of the brother-sister relationship many step siblings often develop with a hint of the inappropriate–although when we step out into the public eye, no one would ever know. For all intents and purposes, he is my father..."

Ellie also helps to run a charity with two friends, one, Seven, you may recognize from Dawn Robertson's Hers series; the other, Suzanne, is a sub married to a lying, cheating asshole. Ellie is also a high profile attorney. But from the age of 18, she has been trained to be the "Black Widow"; a hitwoman for the rich, and she only hits the bad.
"I don't feel bad about being a hitwoman because I know each one of these people deserve everything they get; call me the Dexter of the high profile."

She isn't only a lawyer and hitwoman, she is also a kinky fucker.
"At one point in time I have three dicks inside me. I ride Calvin while Joseph fucks my ass and Shane fucks my mouth."

I actually liked Ellie's story a lot, and I would like to have seen a few more cases she took on before the final, 'different' one in this story. I don't want to give anything away, so this is really hard to review, but when we get Remy's POV and Suzanne's POV, there was just too much of a change in focus from Ellie to Remy, and I just didn't feel like there was enough background for Remy and Suzanne to justify the change in focus to them.

Likes:

  • •I liked Ellie and her development. She is a strong, independent, take no shit kind of woman.

  • •It's sexy and exciting.

  • •Pulled me in right from the start and never let go.

  • •That she is kind of like Robin Hood.

  • •There was no major cliffy that made me want to hate the authors.

Dislikes:

  • •The story felt rushed. I needed a lot more background on Remy and Suzanne. There wasn't enough to make me hate Remy (even though he is an asshole), and I wish there was more build-up.

  • •The change in focus from Ellie to Remy & Suzanne made it feel like it was either written at two different times, or that is where the authors' split the writing.

  • •This is nit-picky, but I really hate the term finger banged (especially when she says she did it to herself).

The Down & Dirty:

I am finding it hard to rate part one of a 3-part story. I kind of feel like just as I was getting into The Huntress, it ended. I  really liked the development of Ellie, and the first half of The Huntress was really good. But the first person in Remy's head changed the focus of the story a bit and I felt like the second half needed more development and a longer build-up. I feel like it may have been a little rushed to the climax. But given that there are two more books in the series, that may rectify, and I reserve the right to go back and change this rating to be higher if the new additions more fully develop the story. Dawn and Kristen know how to write a strong and sexy heroine, and I can't wait to read more about Ellie in the next two installments.

Rating: 4 stars (but may be re-rated higher when the next installments come out), Heat - 4.75

I have read every single Dawn Robertson and love them all. I was so sad when she decided to stop writing, though I understood and was happy for her. Then to hear she was back and this was her first published book, I was ecstatic!! This did not disappoint either! Wow! An amazing and intense story. Though it is not for the faint of heart. It is full of death and sex. No romance, no sappy crap, and no vanilla. I am so excited to read more in this series! Welcome back Dawn!!

The Best Parts:
There are times when you read a book and think, oh I’m just like that character. Not when you read this baby though. You may not be like Ellie, but trust me, by the end of this, you will WANT to be Ellie. She is a bad ass that kicks butt, and does it with a finesse that makes her seem like the most graceful woman ever.

Not to mention her men as well. You see how I said that? HER MEN. These men would truly be nothing without her, and what is a better power trip than that? Linc, Theo, even Joseph. The dynamic between all of these characters sets the page on fire, and will have you fanning yourself all the same.

The Worst Parts:
If you didn’t see above, there is a disclaimer for this novel. Doesn’t take it lightly. This book brings it. And when I say that I mean straight to the page it will bring you sex, blood, gore, reality. If you don’t mind the boundaries being pushed then dive in, but if you are on that edge you are going to have to decide if your are willing to blacken your soul just a little bit more ;]

Final Thoughts:
This book captivates you from the Prologue until the Epilogue. And what I love is that it gives you everything you need right at this moment in your life, but leaves you wanting more than you could have ever anticipated for. The ending is absolute perfection. Sometimes you don’t need an exact ending and I think that works with this story so well, and truly what makes it unique in the book world, and sets up for the next books in this series.

This book was freaking epic! It had so much going on and ALL of it was so good! I had no idea what I was in for and I had a blast reading this!!

We meet Stella/Eleanor/Ellie and she's badazz. She's an assassin and absolutely loves her job. But that's not all. She's a socialite by day and blends in expertly with the wealthy. Honestly, her story is really interesting, even though it's only just begun. She is the main character/attraction and everyone else is a side piece lol.

What I want to see in book two? Wishful thinking, maybe, but I would love it if Ellie and Theo found a way to be together. I realize that their relationship is taboo but it doesn't make it any less hot. Just the potential of it is delicious.

Well... here's to hoping!
