I have a lot of feels, but I'm feeling a little ambivalent at this point. This could go either way. I'm glad Eddie and Adrian are on the team. I'm glad Lash is back, and her and Davina together is epic. I'm underwhelmed by Lassiter and Raven, and I really wanted to love them. I am still invested and looking forward to where this is all going.

Lassiter's book has been something that I have been looking forward to since J.R. Ward announced his book. I knew he had done a lot for the Brotherhood since the Scribe Virgin decided to hand the reigns over to him but we really get to see a heart wrenching story. I can tell you I was not prepared. I stared at the book for a few minutes after I finished it. I had no idea what I was in for when I first opened this book. I have cried during so many of the Brotherhood books, like sobbed, but the angst just kept coming. I never saw the ending coming though. I am looking forward to the next book and cannot wait to see what else Ward has in store for us! I am going to go look for that box of Kleenex now.

What the actual fuck did I just read? I am simultaneously over this series and needing more.

Lassiter
Black Dagger Brotherhood, Book 21

I Picked Up This Book Because: Continue the series.

Media Type: Audiobook
Source: HC Public Library
Dates Read: 2/7/24 - 2/10/24
Stars: 3.5 Stars
Narrator(s): Jim Frangione

The Characters:

Lassiter
Rahvyn
Wrath, Eddie, Adrianne, Beth, LW, All of the other Brothers, Devina and Lash *insert eyeroll*

The Story:

While ultimately I found this story entertaining I spent a lot of time thinking about DNF-ing it. I came to the conclusion that I just didn’t care enough about the main characters/stories. Devina and Lash bore me and as much as I love Lassiter he and Rahvyn were not keeping my attention either. I had to turn the speed up on my audiobook just to force myself to pay attention. Had it not been for Wrath’s heavy involvement in the 2nd half I would have bailed. JR Ward played with our emotions at the end of the book and I was ready to fight her. (view spoiler)

Better than some of the more recent ones (although not as good as Darius). Interesting premise and outcome (not sure I get the significance of the timeframe.)

DNF

Remember when the series started and each book had a definitive beginning and end, and you could read one without necessarily reading the others? When each book centered on one couple, with the on going plot happening in the background - interesting enough, but the romance was the draw?

When that stopped, I stopped reading the series. Then Lassiter was announced.

I was so, so excited for Lassiter. I loved him.

This book? Reminded me exactly why I stopped reading this series. I can't even be bothered to finish it.
