My doctor suggested I look into this book and follow the info on NutritionFacts.org to manage my health: so helpful to finally have a reference for unbiased nutrition research.

An extensive and informative book!

A great synopsis of the research supporting a plant based diet. I was close to giving it a 5 but it was so long, but I wouldn’t have cut anything either. The book details research supporting reasons why your diet should include: beans, berries, other fruits, cruciferous vegetables, greens,!other vegetables, flaxseeds, nuts and seeds, herbs and spices, while grains, water, and exercise. I’ll add ground cloves to my morning oatmeal in addition to berries and cinnamon. First half of book went into specific detail how not to die from specific diseases. I’ve also checked out the cookbook now too.

A bit US-focused for a lot of the criticisms of the food and pharmaceutical industries, but lots of excellent content overall. Greger seems very down-to-Earth and honest. I also appreciated his numerous puns.

The best book on nutrition I've ever read. The cover kind of made it look to me like this is one of those hokey diet books ("Lose 50 pounds by eating nothing but bananas for 2 months!"), but this book focuses on nutrition and encourages a wide variety of whole, plant-based foods. All health facts are backed up by (usually multiple) evidence based studies that are helpfully linked in the eBook. The writing is easy to read, packed with helpful info, and some good humor sneaks its way in. I've been eating vegan for years, but after reading this book I'm going to tweak my daily meals to include more of the foods that contain the most nutrients. On a personal note, there is a very strong history of aggressive breast cancer in my family. Reading the entire chapter on breast cancer prevention and foods that support recovery give me some peace of mind that, based on many studies, there are particular foods I can eat to help my body fight cancer causing cells to the best of its ability. There is a chapter on all leading causes of death in North America, and how we can use food to drastically reduce the chances of dying from one of these so called lifestyle diseases. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone.

I've been vegan for the animals for a long time now, but I've given minimal consideration to what I eat. This book has changed that. While the Dr Greger hesitates to promote veganism specifically (but rather, a whole foods, plant based diet, and encouraging people to simply eat more colourful plants where they can!), I wish I could thrust this book I into the hands of anyone who is interested in evidence-based, scientific dietary advice to promote health. There is so much misinformation out there with influencers and PTs masquerading as dieticians. This was a fascinating read that I'll be sure to continue to reference for years to come. And I'm totally grating tumeric into a meal every day from now on!
