Is suffering the meaning of life? Read this book, and you still won't know the answer. But you sure will have thought about it a lot. Dark, existential, disturbing, absurdist, and extremely graphic; I actually really enjoyed this book as a whole. This is the first one of his books I've ever read. His writing style is extremely evocative, and I was hooked right from the beginning, even though the pace was fairly slow. Reading this felt like watching a giant, intricate and beautiful puzzle come together, only to realize it's an image of some guy mooning you. But in a good way? Hard to explain, but worth the experience if you can stomach it.

This is my second time reading this book and I decided I wasn’t going to bother finishing this time. I remember not really enjoying it the first time, but I thought maybe I just needed to give it another shot. None of the characters are likeable, the story is boring and the writing is somehow both flat and “edgy” to a fault. Giving up because life is too short to read bad books.
