Started a little slow but then I got sucked in. Maybe it's partly my fascination with the roaring 20's but by the end i was emotionally invested, even with the characters I didn't like. And of course now I can't wait for the next volume to come out. I'm especially interested to see where the story arc of Gloria and Jerome ends up.
Entertaining enough, & since it's of course a trilogy, I have to read the rest now!
I was interested in the historical aspect of the novel, but was fairly disappointed. There was very little that taught me anything new about the flapper. The character development and writing style was very elementary and way too cliche. The plot itself was good, but coupled with poor writing made the book dull.
Really good! Can't wait to read the next book!
Started slow but picked up after a few chapters. Not sure how accurate any of it could be it seems a little far fetched historically. I can't see high society girls being flappers but I might need to read up more on that time period. It was a good story and I will finish the series.
Three girls. One decent, one shallow, and one spoilt.
There were pretty descriptions, a few French phrases, and plenty of drinking. I felt like the slang that was used felt forced. There were some plot holes. There were good aspects and bad aspects. It wasn't a masterpiece or trash. It was okay.
The plot: It's the 1920's. Prohibition is everywhere. Speakeasies are the most popular thing in Chicago since deep dish pizza. The plot revolves around Gloria, Lorraine, and Clara's life of flapper-hood. It wasn't deep, but it was a quick read. The cover was pretty. That didn't make the book all that pretty. There were sparkly dresses and bubbly drinks. The words, however, were plain.
Gloria: Socialite/Singer. Honestly, she was just annoying most of the time. She was rich. She was engaged. She fell in love with someone else that society looked down upon. The only interesting thing she did involved murder.
Lorraine: Useless. She was shallow and petty which doesn't have to be such a terrible thing if handled correctly. However, Lorraine had no redeeming properties. She got jealous over the stupidest things. She kissed her best friend's fiancé, for crying out loud. It was so hard to imagine that a person could be like this.
Clara: Reformed Flapper. She was the only interesting character to me. She had a conscious, an agenda, and a personality. The reveal was surprising and did add to her character development. She was the third star in the rating. At least she was believable.
"That was all her life in Chicago had amounted to: a few dresses that fit into a too-small valise." ~ the feeling is the same as when I think of my time reading this book.

So, I really liked this book.
in history class we are learning about the 'roaring twenties' and I was disappointed that I didn't get an A on that test. Well.
This book was all glamour, and high society, and I loved it all.

While it started out pretty good, it got over the top really quickly, and by the end felt a lot like a bad soap opera, which was really disappointing.
More like 2.5 stars. The story moves fast but the characters fell flat. People were madly in love in one date or less. Only one of the girls’ stories felt imminent. I will probably read the 2nd one but only because I already have it.
