This book was very smart and cleverly written. The characters were the worst but so intriguing I couldn’t stop reading I felt entranced by them. However this book has nothing to do with the society. The society is basically nothing? Like what is it? I swear we never find out which is so frustrating also if these people are so smart why on earth would they take the word of a random person about joining this ‘society’ for wealth and knowledge I don’t understand. I just don’t understand most of this book tbh or even what they did the year they were in London. Like where did this idea of creating black holes come from? Why was Libby randomly making them and turning back time and stuff? What inspired her to do that it seemed so random and out of the blue? I was just very confused and I only kept reading as the characters were interesting and I wanted to know the ending.
I wouldn’t read the sequel as I don’t really care that much but so confused by this books popularity. Maybe I’m too dumb for this book but like it has no plot?

Wasn’t my genre and the writing was a little bit too complicated. I didn’t get the story because I didn’t understand everything. This book made me feel dumb

Possibly a soft DNF, possibly permanent. I’m enjoying this, but not loving it enough to read the whole trilogy, especially with the poor reviews of the other two books. I have so many other books begging my attention.
I feel like i spent too much time reading a book thats meant to set up for the next one. The problem not a lot happened in 500 pages. We get to know the (some of) characters well, sure, but the plot was barely there in this first book as they sluggishly make their way to the conflict. its like reading a really long fanfic, which would be fine as a online novel but as a book?? Idk i feel like then it shouldn’t be just this first half, or just cut it down some.
The side characters were all very interesting though.

Wow. This is a super compelling story with a very interesting cast of characters. Got a little too philosophical for me at some points which took me away from the story, but a dark academia magicians society with death and secrets is something that I didn’t realize was very up my alley!!!
