Any book that contains the phrase "bagpipe blunderbuss" is right up my alley, and this often-silly, often-suspenseful, steampunk-flavored romantic paranormal series continues to be delicious. The "scientific" explanations for immortality or the lack of are getting a little convoluted, but I do enjoy the characters (especially Lord Akeldama and Professor Lyall), the sense of adventure, and the playfulness of the series.
Good stuff.

Not impressed by this one compared to the previous two. Not sure if i want to continue with the series just yet. Maybe i should just take a break from it.

This series just keeps getting better! The blurbs to describe the books hardly do them justice (I mean, come on: mechanical ladybugs?! how menacing could those be??). In fact, Carriger is a master of world creation, seamlessly blending reality and explaining it using fantasy. It's really lovely how well her storytelling meshes with the realities of history.
Still great, but not my favorite. Loved the ladybugs and pesto! The visual of La Diva hanging off the side of a dirigible and Ivy's head poking out a port window had me laughing hysterically.
I am always a sucker for time period-based drama. Poor Alessandra is forced to leave her husband's house when he doesn't believe her baby is his. We all know that Sir Maccon is nothing if not hard-headed, but you'd think he would have more faith in his wife.
Cue the globe-trotting adventure in search of answers as Alessandra smashes the barriers in her way and demands information from people who are entirely unprepared for her methods.
I loved this novel and cannot wait for the next one, though I am certainly not ready for this series to end!

I don't really know why any of it. Seemingly very little plot except for running up mountains; much too much detailed explanation of invented scientific theories (Gail Carriger read His Dark Materials and then went on a bender?), let's chalk this up to a mid-series yawn.
