4.5/5 star rating. I honestly had a hard time getting into this book because our main character Vanja was pretty unlikeable. She is selfish and rude and purely out for herself in almost every interaction. But as the story went on and the world was built up around her, I began to see her for what she is - a human with trauma and painstakingly erected walls to cope with her past hurt. With that bit of knowledge, I began to understand the coping mechanisms that Vanja was putting in place, because...well, been there, done that.

This book made me feel. And maybe that's the particular reason I didn't love it to begin with because I felt anger and sadness more often than not (when I want to use reading as an escape, I'm maybe looking more for a fairytale than something that hits close to home). However, the characters were beautifully shaped and grown, the world was painted with detailed brush strokes, and a story that I couldn't put down was created. I also want to mention I listened to this book and felt like a got a lot more joy out of knowing that the pronunciations weren't ones I made up in my own head. I cannot wait for the next book and highly recommend that you read Little Thieves!

Took me a a little while to get into this book, but once I did I was hooked. Relatable/loveable characters, some great heist/thievery bits and a solid story.

I was a bit worried at first because the Vanja is a bit hard to like and seemed too stubborn and one minded for a good character arc.  I will happily say I flew through the ending of this and the ending is absolutely worth it! I really love the magic and Gods in this story and the romance is sweet without being over the top.
