I need to stop reading 1-star reviews of books I love because I do get a lot of the points, but I need to judge books based on my original thoughts.
BOOKISH AND THE BEAST- 5 stars
SPOILERS AHEAD
The amount of pop culture references took me by surprise. I don't normally pick up on every reference made by authors, and I mean, I started getting a little suspicious because somehow the author placed references to all of my favorite fandoms. I can see why it would bother some people, but for me, as a genz college student, it was engaging- especially because there is a Howl's Moving Castle remark (my favorite movie of all time).
The romance was especially slow-burn. Like, they don't even interact much until halfway through the book slow-burn. Normally this would be a turn-off, but there is a side-plot involving the mc's two best friends that kept me wanting to read more. I did end up wanting more from this book due to the slow start though. Since the romance only picked up about 3/4 of the way the ending felt a little rushed, but I still enjoyed it.
The author does a great job of representation, but sometimes it rubbed me the wrong way. For example, the mc's Dad is bisexual and has a scene with someone he finds "cute," but after that we get no further explanation or update on that situation. It didn't add anything to the plot, and started to feel as though the author was just adding that in for "woke points".
Although this retelling didn't follow the Beauty and the Beast fairytale perfectly, it was still a super cute and satisfying read. This series has a special place in my heart as a huge fangirl in multiple fandoms. This book was especially easy to relate to because the mc is a book-lover herself. The romance is slow-burn enemies-lovers (my favorite), there's a huge library, an ATLAB reference, a prom overlord campaign, and much, much, much more. Overall, it was a quick cute read, like the rest of the books, and although I wanted more from the ending it was still satisfying.

This series keeps getting better. Ashley Poston writes fantastic teen romances with enough fairytale elements to keep the original story in tact and enough geeky references to make any cosplayer or congoer instantly recognize their people.
Spinning right off from book 2, Ms. Poston gives us a story about Starfield's newest villain, bad boy Vance Rains. He's been exiled to a mansion in a small town to lay low from his most recent scandal. Booklover and Starfield fan Rosie Thorn accidentally stumbles into the mansion and ends up ruining a 1st edition book. The two are tasked with sorting the homeowner's newly acquired library to pay for their their respective debts. Excellent enemies to lovers plot for any fangirl or boy.
Ms. Poston is excellent at queer representation in her books and at pulling in past characters for cameos. The romance is sweet and teen appropriate, but still engaging for adults. I'm a big fan of this series.

This was my favorite book yet. Man how I love this series, this one just amazed me. I liked the characters, did not like Vance in the last book but was I happy with his arc in this one. I loved the main protagonists and how there were elements of beauty and the beast, but not quite how you’d imagine it. I loved the tone and pace of reading.
5/5 this would have my vote to turn into a movie the most up to this point

2.75 ⭐️ na początku ta książka napełniła mnie ogromem ciepła i komfortu. była po prostu uroczą i przyjemną historią. niestety wątek romantyczny moim zdaniem zmienił ją w taką typową młodzieżówkę. za to absolutnie uwielbiam wszystkich drugoplanowych bohaterów!
The editing on this book was MISERABLY LACKING. There were at least half a dozen -- and probably more like a full dozen -- blatant word errors that continually pulled me out of the story. If the copyeditor could not be bothered to care about this book, why should I???
Editing aside, the characters in this story just didn't make that much sense to me and I didn't particularly care about any of them. 2.5 stars rounded down for the publisher's sloppiness and apathy.
