It’s a completely bananas story about stories, with a couple really good Batman issues in the middle.
You know, there are some really great ideas, a few great scenes and some spectacular art in this series. Unfortunately, that doesn't help when 70, 75% of the thing doesn't make any goddamned sense.
It has its moments, but this is Grant Morrison at his most befuddling. There's just too much to follow for a casual reader of DC comics.
Dit is zo tering dense en out-there dat ik het op dit moment gewoon geen rating durf te geven
Unsatisfying, cluttered, self-indulgent, and endlessly confusing, this book reads as though Grant Morrison set out to show how ridiculous superhero comics are by dredging up every weird, trippy, outsized, and silly concept that's ever existed in the DC Universe, and threw it all at the wall together.
But don't take my word for it. Reading through other reviews, I found this hilarious epic takedown of the book that's packed with examples of exactly what about it is unmanageably insane.

I get it. This is a classic. I don't know if it holds up years after it's written. Most of it felt like a fever dream. There was a lot of the usual Supes worship, which is why I usually stay away from comics with him in them (All-Star Superman is an exception).
Beautiful and chaotic artwork, but I have no idea what the hell I just read.

There are better, more verbose reviews of this, so I'll just give you my reaction to this storyline: ugh. I really should have kept my plead to never read this.
