Rolling into town, Jack sees a murder happen in front of his eyes and decides that he needs to get involved. Ok, yes, the inciting incident is pretty damn shaky on this one, but as long as you can suspend your disbelief for that, it turned out to be a pretty fun read. Not as much of a page turner as earlier entries, but enough action and intrigue to keep it going. Nice to see Andrew is over the sophomore slump and I look forward to what he'll do with Reacher in the future.

In some ways this was a welcome return to a more classic Jack Reacher story. After the past few seemed to meander, this one did cut back most of the fat, maybe a bit too much at times though. It starts as many reacher stories do with him being at the wrong place for a criminal conspiracy to continue.

This one starts off kind of small and begins to billow, and the first few chapters set up a solid Reacher story. However, it seems as though there are attempts to pare down side stories that could make the plot get too long and overwrought but I wonder if one in particular should have been cut completely because it ends up being totally unnecessary.

This is one of those Reacher stories that has some other narratives that you know will come together. One is fine and fits in with who Reacher is as a character and hero. The other is just a waste of time because at the end we know the information and it doesn't provide any new antagonist or ally for Reacher.

Reacher also seems to take a step back with understanding. There is one moment where he asks a question that we have seen him get the answer to multiple times by now. It just seemed like an odd step back, yet in most of these instances I still felt like it was progressing better than the last two Reacher novels.

However the thing that drops this down for me is the last act. Part of the villains plan is just so outlandish and bad action movie type and it misreads the situation so poorly its laughable. Then there is some more color that is given and I just wasn't here for it. But for the most part it's a fun ride.

Serviceable enough, but the character of Reacher feels thin somehow; the conspiracy plot seems to be going through the motions.

Standard thriller type.
Felt a bit rushed and I finished it not fully sure what had happened.
Not as good as the earlier Reacher books, but an easy read.
