God d*mn this was good.

I'm extremely concerned that this book is going to cause a lot of people to take a chance on a line cook, hoping to find their own Ozzy, and I'm not sure that's good for anyone.

However, fictional line cooks? Fictional line cooks we can and should fall in love with and Ozzy is definitely worth the inevitable pain. A man down so bad that he's literally willing to crawl to his woman? Yes, please.

Or should we say "Yes, chef."

Readers should know that, even if the cover and accompanying art are cutesy, this is a Naomi Loud book through and through, and should read the TWs to make sure they aren't walking into anything they don't want to read about. It deals with serious issues--from SA to alcoholism to family trauma. But, those heavy topics never drag the story down, instead, they create the necessary conflict to keep the story moving, and Loud bypasses a third-act breakup by making the characters actually deal with that conflict. Seriously, it is worth the read.

And, again, god d*mn, I have not blushed or squealed like a schoolgirl for a book in so long and I definitely did both. I'll also never look at a Snickers bar the same way again.

* Thank you to the author and Good Girls PR for access to the ARC in exchange for my honest review! *

James and Ozzy. I have so much to say and can’t because spoilers! So here’s a bad review of an amazing book! So James changes her major and her dad is a jerk so she leaves and gets a job as a waitress and that’s where Ozzy works. He’s smirky and cocky and the curls… There’s a frozen Snicker’s bar involved and James’ stupid boyfriend and I just love Ozzy. Seriously, this book is already a favorite!

This book was spectacular. James and Ozzy both deserve the whole entire world.
Ozzy hasn't had an easy life, and it's clear how much responsibility he's carrying. James has also had her fair share of traumas. Both of them see the other for exactly who they are, and both work so hard to give the other (and themselves) exactly what they need. Ultimately, they show each other so much care and kindness, and that's what hooked me in and had me rooting for them all the way through.
I loved how quickly Ozzy became obsessed with James. It felt as though he had such a cool front, and it was funny to read his POV overthinking every little thing when it came to her.
I loved that James could always answer back, prepared to give as good as she got. She's absolutely determined to take control of her life and get the things she wants. I am also a sucker for upgrading from a shitty boyfriend, and this book is a masterclass in that.
The restaurant setting was really fun, especially with all the opportunities for mischief in walk in fridges and dry storage. On that note, the spice in this book was something else. I swear chapter 39 nearly killed me off. I had to take a minute to make sure I didn't send @spicybookcorner TMI.
There's something so special about books where the characters can be so relatable, with challenges and resolutions that feel so real. I think this book is going to be on my mind for a long time yet.
