Dialogue needs a lot of work. And the descriptions of setting are very weak and lacking. Several times I had no idea what was going on.

Great concept, mediocre execution

I waited for the audiobook version of the book and let's just say I'm glad (and mad) that I used my free credit on this book. I just couldn't get into this book no matter how much I wanted too. I stopped reading it, hoping to someday pick it back up and finish it but this is definitely a DNF for me.

An excellent book with a good pace and plenty to like. The cast of characters starts out a bit too large, meaning most only get a few traits before their deaths, and even fewer get actual arcs; however the characters that do get the time to develop, specifically the two leads, are compelling. The world-building is blissfully restrained, hinting at larger machinations and cultures but focusing only on what is directly important for the story being told. The writing itself, while at times a bit cliche, works well and fits the world and the characters well. And despite its daunting length, it is fast-paced enough that I never wanted to put it down.

Reread. Dialogue is worse than I remember. The archetypes were fun … I liked the beat!

I apologize, but this felt like a draft rather than a finished book.

Re-read. Great story, clunky dialogue. The romance is sweet but the dialogue weakens it a lot.
