"I'm not really sure what I am anymore, whether I'm a monster or whether I'm just a woman, or both."

Ah good vampire books. The parallel the Mc draws between being non white and being a vampire are chiefs kiss.

I loved this book. It’s a dark, introspective novel about a young woman finding her identity and place in the world, disguised as a vampire novel.
The themes explored in here covered complex family dynamics, gender, race, and the multifaceted relationship between humans and food.

The complexities of a vampire who is also half human is a concept ive never read before. There are so many layers to Lydia's character and the journey she goes through in this book. The ending is beautiful and worth it. I read this book in 2 days and while I'm usually sad it's over im so grateful i got to read it because it took me on a ride. The tone of the book is dark and gorgeous and im impressed how the author can use little words to convey large philosophical ideas. This book is for those who are always searching what if feels to be human. This book makes you look at your own mortality different. If you enjoy a more action based plot, this book is not for you but make no mistake its a fast read for someone who enjoys dark themes that bring something new to the table. the best vampire book ive ever read.
