This wasn't my type of reading, a little graphic but I'm trying to finish all the books I started and then never finished.
Overall despite my dislike to the subject matter of the main story, I loved her writing style which redeemed it for me ever so slightly.

I finished this book in two days! If I finish a book it two days - it means I thought it was pretty damn good! Just wow! I was not ready to enjoy this book as much as I did and I’m ready to order them all on Amazon and binge read until I’m finished and my entire heart is completely content!
The beginning romance between Talon and Jade is one different than I’ve read thus far. Yes - there is the whole love story first sight MO, but it doesn’t bother me so much because there are so many layers to peel back when it comes to Talon opening himself up to Jade. The back and forth between giving into what the heart wants and letting go based on how you think is written beautifully. The underlying current of abuse and torment Talon has experience kept me turning each page wanting to know if the secret would finally be revealed. I cannot wait to read the next book and I can guarantee this entire saga will be completed by the end of the year!
Oh - and the Phoenix tattoo - I screamed at the revelation

It was good and I really would like to know what happened to Talon when he was 10 but not intrigued enought to spend $13 on the next two books to find out. Maybe they'll hit kindle unlimited or drop in price eventually
Talon's whiplash towards Jade was getting a bit OTT at the end.

I couldn't put this book down. This is a great read. I repeat a great read
WHAT I LIKED:
This book started out incredibly slow, however, the *spicy* scenes made the slowness worth it. There is definitely a lot of drama between Talon and Jade. The attraction is just there, you can feel it in the story. Talon is a big brooding man with a dark past and has a horrible time letting people in, but for whatever reason, Jade seems to always be able to get near him. The storyline for this was good too, lots of detail about Talon's family and about Jade.
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
There were a couple odd parts here that seemed to have taken too long to come to a conclusion to the point of annoyance. There is also a cliff hanger at the end, it does lead into the next book so it's not totally upsetting..
OVERALL / RECOMMENDATION:
This book was slow and steamy, but so good. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys slow burn romance novels.

Wow! This book took me on a ride that I wasn't expecting. People were telling me to read this series that I would love and that it was better than Fifty Shades of Gray. I was hesitant. I'm so glad I took the time to read it. This book is a page turner. I fell in love with the author's style of writing. The way she wrote this book was raw, uncut and I rode every emotional wave included. If you are looking for a great read I suggest you read this book. I'm now reading the second book "Obsession" and I can't seem to put it down even though I am taking some time to write this review. Lol!! Jade I feel for her and that damn Talon with his mysterious ass. No more from me though JUST READ THE BOOK AND I'M SURE YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME!!!!
This book was recommended to me by my mom. She never reads anything so when she told me that she loved this new series she was reading I knew it had to be good. I was right. I couldn’t put this book down and read it in one day.
Jade Roberts has just been stood up at the alter by her long time boyfriend and is moving to Colorado to stay with her best friend Marjorie on her ranch while she looks for a job and tries to start her life over in a new town. Marjorie lives and works on her family ranch with her three brothers Jonah, Talon and Ryan. Jade has met Jonah and Ryan but not Talon and, as luck would have it, Talon picks Jade up at the airport when Marjorie has a last minute appointment.
From the minute Talon and Marjorie meet they have an instant connection and you can cut the sexual tension with a knife. Soon Talon and Jade can’t take it anymore and sleep together. Talon tells himself and Jade that it would just happen that one time but they can’t stay away from each other. Jade begins to see her relationship with Talon as more than just sex and starts to have real feelings for him but Talon is battling demons from his past that no one, not even his family, know about. Will Talon be able to deal with his past so that he can have a future with Jade? Will Jade be able to wait for Talon or will she have to move on without him? Will Talon’s demons stay in the past or will they surface and threaten everyone he loves?
Find out in the steamy romance full of passion and suspense.
I give this book 5 stars!

A Lot Happening
Oof. There's a lot to unpack here but I will admit that I'm willing to read the next book just because of that cliffhanger.
Edit 3/9/20: Okay, now that I've had some time to reflect on this book...
Talon is in serious need of therapy. Jade alternates between being a doormat and pretending to be a strong woman. She thinks Colin's a jerk, but I actually feel Talon is worse. She's just more willing to put up with him because he's more attractive and has his big dark secret.
Way too much dubious consent. It is NOT attractive for Talon to be told no by Jade and he insists upon doing what he wants anyway. I could pick somebody on the street who would treat Jade better than him.
Talon has clear issues with boundaries and consent, but we're apparently supposed to let it go because of what happened to him. The flashbacks make it fairly clear what has transpired, but let's go ahead and drag it out for a whole book without him finally telling Jade or a THERAPIST what happened. I got pretty sick of hearing about Talon's "walls" by the end of the book. It is NOT romantic for someone to act out, ignore consent, and push people away because of prior trauma. I'm only going to keep reading because I want to know if the perpetrators will actually get caught.

After finishing the Crossfire series (if you haven’t read I highly recommend) I was in the market for a new series. This got my attention and I decided to give in. This is the first book I read from Helen Hardt.I did enjoy it but for me something was missing that I can’t quite put my finger on. I do enjoy the “ forbidden love, I should leave them alone but I can’t” kind of story and if you do too maybe give this book a read. However I didn’t find that the writer gave us the depth of these characters as much as I would have liked. More for Jade than Talon, we get to see him as more of a deep complex person that we are figuring out but Jade is well kinda basic. I hope we get to see her grow in the next book. I find that it’s tricky, when you’re switching point of views each chapter. She lets the reader knows how each character internally is feeling ( which is great) but I think I would have enjoy seeing them interact more that would explain more this pull they feel for each other( other than sexually) . She does give us some good interaction but I found it more surface level than I would have liked. I love the story line of man dealing with his own demons finding his “angel” but more why she’s the angel, if you know what I mean. This book set up a mysterious backstory that we have got bits and pieces of and I’m truly excited to find out more about what the dark side of the Steel ranch is. I did enjoy the cliffhanger which I normally dislike at the end of a book but it definitely got me wanting more. In end, the book got me interested enough to want to keep reading and find out what happens but it wasn’t my favorite book.
