3 stars will do, I think. I liked the first parts, but it got to a point where chapters felt too long because what they ultimately led up to was unsatisfying. Even the revelations about Jude's past felt a bit contrived, anything bad that could happen to him happens, it's like the author was checking boxes off a list LOL. Further, the book was too aggressive in making Jude a tortured, perfect angel whom we're supposed to love that it made me feel the opposite. Jude spends so much of the book apologizing, but what flaw has the author given him really? I wish the author had given us readers some room to decide to love the main character despite so and so.
I have a lot I didn't like, but I intend to still read the next Hanya Yanagihara book. I just hope it's not another A Little Life.

Beautifully done. I think this could serve as a map for living human? So difficult in parts, but also instructive.
