'kay....I loved this story. It was brilliant. Willow, the 12-year-old genius and her collection of people that ultimately made up her family - priceless! I want to read on and on and on, want more, more, more. A definite feel-good book for older kids AND adults!

Very predictable, but it got me anyway.

I found this book hard to get through. There wasn’t much going on and the character development wasn’t very deep. I found the ending out of place and unbelievable. Really? A woman who lived in a garage had a secret fortune and decided to buy an entire apartment building? Seriously, what?

I did like some of the characters (Dell) and the book will work okay for the kid in counseling who I picked it up for...but I almost feel bad making him read it considering I found it so boring.

awesome :')

2.5 stars. Not a bad middle grade book but kind of slow for me. I loved our main character but I wish we would have reflected on her grief and parents more than we did.

I read a lot of books each year, but rarely does a book make me stop and catch my breath, because it changes the way I look at the world. Wonder was like that, and so was Out of the Dust. And now I can add Counting by 7s to that very short list.

Willow is twelve, but unlike any twelve-year-old I've ever met. She is scientific and methodical, preferring to study plants and diseases more than anything one would expect from a middle school girl. She has no friends, and does not fit in anywhere but at home. Her life is turned upside down when both of her parents are killed in an accident. Suddenly, she is dependent on the kindness of strangers to help her find a place in the world. Willow changes the lives of everyone she comes in contact with, without doing anything other than being herself. This is a truly remarkable journey. I highly recommend it for grades 5 and up.

You have no choice but to love a book that makes you giggle and cry.

Ooops, I read this a few months ago and never wrote a review for it. It was set in Bakersfield!! That was fun.
This was a wonderful, touching book about a child prodigy whose adoptive parents die at the very beginning of the book... which sounds so tragic, and it is, but actually the story is full of hope, light, humor, warmth. I'd recommend for 4th graders and up.

I loved this book! The characters were fantastic - I loved Willow, Dell, Pattie, and Jairo. This book has been on my to-read list for awhile and I’m so glad I finally read it!
