I loved everything about this book. It is a must read. In some ways, Willow reminds me of my younger self or rather what I aspired to be at that age. I also have a fondness for really smart and gifted children. They deserve the respect of adults, but rarely receive it. Great read if you are looking for something beautiful and thought provoking.
This is one of the best books that I've read or listened to in a long time.
3.5 stars; read this aloud to my daughter. Pluses: strong female protagonist, a few other fun/memorable characters, and a plot that doesn’t feel cliched. Willow, a 12 year old who is used to having all the answers, is left with nothing and nobody when her adoptive parents are killed in a car crash. (Not a spoiler if it happens pretty early, right?) The story of how she pieces a life together, with the help of others (and by helping others), is heartwarming and uplifting. I didn’t find her genius-level gifts to be very relatable, and I didn’t see many redeeming qualities in Dell Duke, and although I enjoyed the book, I never found myself eager to pick it up, or hating to put it down. My daughter (9) seemed to enjoy it more than I did.

I just couldn’t get into this book. The characters didn’t appeal to me but weren’t objectionable enough to draw me in to “hate read” either. It was also about super sad things and I don’t want to do sad these days!
A story of someone that is different. Not weird different, just smart different. Willow really loves plants and medicine fields, and as she expirences a large loss, she changes, but all for good.
