a comfort book
Given the number of accolades this book garnered, I was expecting something more. Its very cute and I laughed at how neatly it was all tied up at the end but I did not feel emotionally invested by any of it.
I had a rough time trying to find something to enjoy in this book. I'm halfway through it and there's nothing I look forward to. DNF-ed.
The writing style this book is written in was really different to what I was used to when beginning this book, but I absolutely fell in love with Willow and her story. Beautiful use of figurative language and imagery to describe her emotions through the journey.
Recommended to anyone looking for a feel-good story about loss, love and growth!

This is a very idealistic but warm story I'd want to revisit in times of unpredictability or transition/moving on. Following Willow's grieving process seems to be comforting.
3,5 stars with a tendence to 4.
I'm alsways struggling with books about children, because usually the writing style fits the character, so it's ... yeah, childish too read.
The topic has to be well made (e.g. I remember enjoying "The book thief", because the content from the point of view of a child was new to that time and interesting)
Here we have 12 year old Willow, a girl losing what's most important for a child... two times and it'S about how she'S living with that.
It was really good. Willow is intelligent and thinks forward, so she analyze herself. Often you have a book about loss, pain and so on packed with emotions. It's not bad for me, I like to suffer with the people. But here we have a girl explaining you what she feels and why and analyzing her process of "surviving" (don't know another word)
Since I have friends who are more about logic and thinking than emotions, it was realistic.
I'm not so much into fate, so this part wasn't my cup of tea but still a good read.

I admire the voice and style, and like, but don’t really love this book as much as I feel like I should. Willow is definitely a one of a kind character is a sad situation.
