The origins of the opioid crisis told through 3 generations of a single family. How the founders of the family pioneered a new way of drug advertising and how their children would carry on the legacy ten fold. If you’ve ever heard the name Sackler before, this is a must read. The author did an amazing job researching this book and outlining this story in a way that, while long, feels concise into the point. Highly recommend.

Such an amazing and informative book about the family who (allegedly) fueled the opioid crisis both in the US and now abroad. The author does a great job with outlining each of these people and their motives. He certainly proves that people don’t become billionaires without exploiting others along the way.

sad that succession was only mentioned once, 13 hours in

I want to rate this a four but I’m giving it more because I think it has to do with the fact that I have already watched Dopesick and prefer the pace and arc of that, but recognize the point of this book is more Sackler and less first-hand addiction experience

Surreal, insightful, albeit and clinical deep dive into the depraved and unhinged Sackler criminal billionaire family. This book is one of many definitive proofs that the billionaire is incompatible with humanity at this point and greed is an addiction as equally destructive and demoralizing as any substance addiction if not more or worse. The lengths the rotting rich go to to keep their corrosive money are so twisted but it's also morbidly impressive how they weave the web of connections and buy their way into getting the results they want. Particularly this family who honestly wouldn't have made it without ass kissers and enablers and unscrupulous people making their perversity possible bc most of them are so offensively insensitive and stupid.
