An image from this book that sticks with me is that a wound heals from the edges inward ... the healthy part of us has the power to expand and heal the part that is broken. The hidden core of ourselves is not the broken secrets of our past but ultimately, the Divine. Any one has the power to reach out into this wounded universe with blessing. An ordinary person can do it - you can do it. This book I will keep for the remarkable insights into all kinds of situations.

Such beautiful blessings, for every occasion. I will be pulling this out to read again and again, and am working on memorizing New Beginnings, and since beginning the book have used several of the blessings each morning as a beautiful way of greeting the day and as inspiration to do more of what I love, and spend less time on fear.

This may be my favorite spiritual book. For me, John O'Donohue's words are a portal to the divine.

John O'Donohue has an amazing gifts with words. These are prayer for specific times and seasons of life or situations. They are almost like poems. They connect and speak deep.

Do yourself a favor and get this in hard copy. You'll return to it again and again. It's a great way to stop and take in the moment when you're starting something new, at a life threshold, or just experiencing loss or love.
"A blessing evokes a privileged intimacy. It touches that tender membrane where the human heart cries out to its divine ground."

O'Donohue's non-fiction books, while containing gleaming nuggets of insight and wisdom, tend to reflect a playful poetic imagination that often loops in on itself -- thus making it a little difficult for the reader to stay engaged. This delicious book, though, allows his poetic nature to flow freely into an assortment of beautifully phrased blessings for people and for situations. Though I copied a couple into my journal for further meditation, I think this would be a good "reference" book to have on hand to help one get a new perspective on situations as they arise. Gentle and loving.
