This was actually pretty fucking cool, and I say this as someone who hates the amnesia trope. It works well here, because honestly the format was starting to get a bit repetitive and if it had gone on for yet another book, it would have been too much.
I really liked learning what happened backwards from Robbie's POV, having all my confusion clear up and pieces fall into place before they could for him but still missing all the scenes until someone told/showed me them.
Robert is a fucking monster... kids, bro? For real? I wish he'd die already cause this is beyond insanity. The fact that Gavin left with him annoys me to no end, but I appreciate the dynamic reversal it offers for his and Carter's relationship thus far. The follower and the runner unwillingly trade places, their feelings for eachother clicking into place too late to count.
I will say though, I'm sick of how sad and traumatized everyone is all the time. These damn Bennett boys never stood a chance at just being happy and normal. The fact that they're all queer is fun though. And everyones dad besides theirs sucks major fucking ass, too. Klune may have some unresolved daddy issues to work through.
I hope he gives us another fresh take for the last book, this one certainly proved he's capable of it.
