This one was a slower read than the other Green Creek stories so far, but I can’t put a finger on why.

When I finished ‘Ravensong’, the second book in this series, I thought I knew where the author would take me next on my journey with the Bennett pack. As usual I was dead wrong. I couldn’t begin to imagine the pain and suffering that Robbie was going to endure… but not in a pedestrian manner. Oh no, that’d be far too easy for TJ Klune. Instead he has written a psychological torture a la Stephen King and I was glued to the pages. packpackpackHomeFamilyMateBrotherpackpackpack
Robbie lost his mother when he was six and then he spent years wandering, staying with other packs briefly, until the day he woke to find the Alpha of all’s witch, Ezra, offering him a place to belong, a home. Except he had these dreams. Dreams of a white wolf, a black wolf, a forest, a home, and people he didn’t know. No one could explain them, not even Ezra. There were days when Robbie felt as if his mind was a fog but many others where life in Caswell, Maine was happy, clear, and joyous. But nothing lasts forever.

This was cute. This was great, but I don’t know if there was any real plot. I LOVED Robbie, but we didn’t get to know him or about him. I think it was a missed opportunity by Klune to not venture further into his past. As well as into Kelly’s past. I think he did the amnesia trope well, but again, too much was lost in terms of the main characters relationships. We barley knew anything about Robbie or Kelly and how they came to be or even anything about what was going on during the lost time. Honestly, in the entire series, so far, as a reader, we could have benefited from a dual point of view from the main couples as insight to them and their lives. I HOPE we get more Kelly with Carter’s book. I also think the use of an ace character was lost. It seemed like I was added more as a token representation thing. I think he could have expanded on it and possibly make it a tool for readers to learn about it more. About how ace people navigate relationships or at least how non ace partners navigate their relationships. This would have been a great opportunity for SOFT relationships and love languages.

I can’t deny that I loved this book. I knew this would probably be my favorite one from the series but I wasn’t expecting to like it this much! The writing style suddenly didn’t bother me at all because it wasn’t so repeating. The plot was very good. I loved all the relationships and how we got to see them being built for a second time. Did it have many plot twists? No. I was just here for the vibes and I loved the vibes.
"Little wolf, little wolf."
"Quiet as a mouse."
"I see you, you know? I see you."
"Grass. Lake water. Sunshine. So much sunshine. As if the world was on fire."
" 'What did you remember?' 'The way you loved me.' It was a punch to the stomach. 'You loved me,' Kelly said softly, 'without reservation. Without expecting anything in return. You loved me, and I knew that you wouldn't stop, not unless you were forced to. And I knew then that I wouldn't stop, no matter what it took.'"
"I wanted a pack who loved me.
Who trusted me.
Who never wanted to let me go.
Who missed me when I was gone.
Who thought about me and smiled.
I wanted a home."
"'It was good between us. We took it slow. You smiled all the time...there was something...I don't know. Endless. About you and me.'"
"I see you Robbie. I see you."
"'I'm going to love you again, okay? I promise.'" He held me tighter, and his breath was warm in my ear. 'I know.'" Eventually we slept."
"It was inevitable."
"'There you are,' he whispered. 'Hey. Hi. Hello.' 'Here I am,' I croaked back...I pulled away, but only just, our lips still brushing together. I lifted one of his hands and pressed it against my chest, right over my heart. I needed him to feel it. I needed him to know. 'I'm going to love you,' I whispered to him. I'm going to love you, and I'm never going to let you go.' My heart remained steady and true. He laughed, though it cracked, and then he kissed me again and again and again."
"It wasn't fierce, the way he loved me. It wasn't the burning fire of passion. It was heavy and soft. It was love unlike anything else I'd felt."
"I reached up and touched his cheek. 'I see you.' He smiled a trembling smile. 'You do?' 'Yeah.'"
