It took me a bit to get into this, but once the story kicked in, it’s hard to forget Mungo Hamilton and James Jameson. I hope they, and those like them, found their place in the world.

Struggling to give a rating. This book is incredibly violent and miserable and I didnt enjoy reading most of it, but having finished it I do really the value of having read it.

This is definitely one of those books where you leave it feeling really sad and upset and worried about the characters. And it feels weird to say that you liked it because there is some real bad shit going on in this book. I wonder how the experience would have been different if I would have read this book, and not had the great narration and musicality of the accent.  I want to read the other book that Mr. Stuart has written, but I think I need to take a break for a while in case Shuggie Bain is as heart-wrenching a character as Mungo is. This is definitely one that will have more trigger warnings selected than not.

What an interesting listen! It took me quite a while to get into the book and some parts were quite slow but overall it was a really good book. Definitely check the content/trigger warnings.

This is a heartbreaking book. Douglas Stuart writes characters so real you easily get sucked into the book. You really just want to hug Mungo and tell him it'll be okay and that he should run away with James. But life really isn't like that and neither is this book.

This book is definitely a book you're gonna want trigger warnings for because it's not for the faint of heart.

I was listening to the audiobook as I read the physical copy and I think that's ideal because you hear the glaswegian accent and how things flow. It makes for a much better reading experience.
