I've read this book a few times over the years. How much I like this book depends on how I'm feeling about Imogen during that reading. I think the last time I read, I found her to be beyond annoying. This time I enjoyed her more.
I have a drinking game for you. Only,be sure you don't have to drive. Take a shot of your favorite adult beverage anytime you read (or the narrated says) Zamar/ian. Where was the editor here?? Also, it was beyond my ability to suspend disbelief that Matthias could fall for such a clueless and willfully ignorant person as Imogen. The author must have thought Imogen's naivete was humorous and charming, but after a while her arrogant assurance that she best understood everything was just grating.
The plot was actually entertaining, and if Quick had toned down both Imogen's steamroller ways and the overuse of "Zamar" it would have been a good read. I've read many Amanda Quick/Jane Ann Krentz books, and I though most of them were decent fun. This one was not her best effort.

My favorite author does it again! Amanda Quick has quickly become (see what I did there?) one of my favorite historical romance authors. Her books always blend mystery, romance, and history so so well and her books are never boring!
Mischief is a classic AQ tale: blue stocking awkward heroine, cold and aloof hero who falls head over heels, a murder mystery, a touch of the supernatural, gothic vibes galore, and a lot of humor. It was sexy, it was funny, it left me guessing. Colchester was the PERFECT hero and was the whip smart, emotionally isolated man I was needing. The way he so tenderly falls for Imogen had me swooning continuously. Definitely recommend this one!
I think Wait Until Midnight remains my favorite AQ novel, but Mischief is probably now a close second. Reviews for the whole stack can be found here and on my Goodreads! I’m really happy AQ has an extensive backlog I can work through!

Fun, light, fluffy with a great hero, though the heroine and her clumsiness was a little much.
Not really my favourite of hers - I thought the characters were a bit flat and the plot felt a bit obvious. Still I was easy to read and didn't require much thought.
