what on earth???? i don’t even know what genre this is. it was really all over the place. i thought it was a rom com?? but it … was not.
i will say my fave trope is the “journalist written by someone who doesn’t know how journalists do their jobs” and there was PLENTY of that in this one!

I don’t quite know how to feel about this book. The story was interesting and engaging enough to keep me reading. I especially liked the first half. But I didn’t quite like the characters or the romance aspect of it, despite having picked up this book because I thought it was a romance. And I think that there was a lot of plot and twists but not enough dissection thru the characters’ POVs or conversations to kind process events with and for the reader. Which ultimately made me feel like the protagonists weren’t connecting or engaging with the story themselves, just going thru the motions and setting up for the next big reveal and twist.
I think it’s worth a read overall though. Definitely read thru the trigger warnings first tho.

Amazing book. A truly unique romance and mystery that was light hearted but still deeply powerful and beautiful and full of thoughts in humanity. Sylvie and Thomas, a successful physic medium and doubting journalist, respectively, bring the enemies-to-lovers, forced-proximity, only-one-bed tropes to life in a way that doesn’t feel cliche. The mystery of Sylvie’s past was captivating and kept me turning the pages. While it wasn’t necessarily full of twists and turns, it wasn’t predictable and definitely held my attention. I loved Thomas’s love for Sylvie’s kindness, even as he dislikes what she does and even as she doubts her own kindness. I loved moose and Chris as the most sweet animal sidekicks. I loved that when Sylvie learns the truth of her past, she uses it only for her own closure and to help others; something incredibly kind and generous of her considering the pain it had caused her throughout her life. While we don’t find out more of what happens with her parents, i loved reading their complicated relationship — they practically disowned her but still tried to protect her.
Overall, a fantastic story with an original concept.
