when i saw that the next book in the series was coming out, i was confused as to who vik was. so i just decided to pick up this book for a memory refresher—i loved it so much when i first read it.

and let me just say that my opinion hasn’t changed. the thing is that i always find that the books i used to love as teen aged badly when i read them as an adult. however, i enjoyed reading this one as much as i did back then.

the one thing i loved so much is the natural relationship progression between mina and lev. they started out as strangers, then friends, then lovers. the number of pages allowed for the reader to see the relationship between these two characters developed beautifully.

i also adored lev. it was never explicitly mentioned in the book but with my limited knowledge, i think he is on the autism spectrum. seeing things from his eyes was wonderful. i do wish that his condition was fully addressed though.

in general, i pretty much loved everything about this book. only two things annoyed me. the fact that mina was the kind of heroine who didn’t know how beautiful she was but actually looked like a model, and second the petty rivalry between anika and mina which i attributed to internalised misogyny. it was unnecessary.
