I just cannot stand his descriptions of women and their bodies. It ruined Norwegian Wood for me and don't get me started on Kafka on the shore. I'm done with his weird and disgusting descriptions of bodies, done with his r*pe scenes and definitely done with the ped*philia.I don't know if I will ever read another Murakami.

When the teen rode the protagonist in some sort of weird sexual rite to open the door to the realm of the fairies - or whatever that weird supernatural world was - that was the last straw. like, wtf. this is too triggering and it's a long, drawn-out love story of two people that can't meet due to supernatural tidings. The prose was beautifully written but dammit the excessive sex rituals ruined it for me.

Similar to other reviewers, I found the sexualisation of minors and misogynistic character development very disconcerting. There were a lot of bits that made me uncomfortable or roll my eyes, particularly around discussions of female sexuality and sexual assault. It’s a huge shame because I genuinely love his writing style and his world building is so addictive and absorbing. I’ve read most of Murakami’s work but I can honestly say after I finish this series I’m going to stop reading his work. I wish I could ignore these aspects but they are very distracting for me.
