“My best friends taught me a new kind of quiet, the peaceful stillness of knowing one another so well you don’t need to fill the space. And a new kind of loud: noise as a celebration, as the overflow of joy at being alive, here, now.”

I think this is my favorite Emily Henry book that I've read. Or, it's tied with Funny Story. It's about friendship and love, and second chances. And I really loved Wyn and Harriet. The way the friend group was felt realistic because it changes as people grow up. This also reminded me of PWMOV because of the past and present timeline.

However, there were some things that really irked me. I don't like miscommunication and I was just begging for them to just talk it out because they really did love each other, and they aren't happy in their current situations. But at the same time, I get how misunderstandings happen. Yet, they could have been easily cleared up.
And maybe it's because Harriet, unlike Emily Henry's usual protagonists, is a neurosurgeon. And she hates it. And then she ends up quitting that to become a potter? I'm sorry, that's so unrealistic. I get that you want to be with Wyn, but you didn't have to give up your career? Especially when you have super expensive loans to pay? And after studying for 10+ years? You didn't have to become a neurosurgeon, which is literally the most stressful specialty in medicine, to earn a lot of money. You could have chosen a more relaxed field. You can tell that Emily Henry is used to writing about literary professions. But go do you I guess.

What I love most about Emily Henry books is how alive all the characters feel. We get to know them so well and they jump off the page at you. This setting is not like anywhere I have ever been but I could picture it perfectly. I could feel the love between the characters and feel the heartaches.  The issues all of the characters are facing are so real they hurt to read.
It was predictable but I didn’t even care, I loved this book so much.

Well-written. This just wasn’t for me. I was bored. I don’t usually read a lot of romance so I think that I am just not the right person to enjoy this book.

I love the banter and tension!! The chemistry between Wyn and Harriet was 🥵

I related to both Wyn and Harriet a lot of times! I loved all the characters, getting to know them and watch them grow through the novel. I laughed, smiled, and cried but I think this is the first of Henry’s (so far) that’ll be rated under 5 stars 🙊

Around the 230 page mark I was so sick of the lack of communication!! This is essentially down to miscommunication being a main plot pointm, which I didn’t mind at first but eventually got so annoyed about it 😭

You’re in your 30s and had been together for nearly a decade!!!! YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO TALK FOR 5 MINUTES AND HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT YOUR FEELINGS?! I understood to an extent given their characters backgrounds but still if you’re dating and ENGAGED to someone for that long, you should be able to communicate and share your feelings and if you can’t then maybe you shouldn’t be together 😫

By the end, I kind of understood the miscommunication, given the background and character traits of both Harriet and Wyn. Also I think it frustrated me so much because I recognized myself and my past issues in their issues. I also liked the author reader guide to explain the choices because then it made more sense but I was still annoyed and think it went on longer than it should’ve.

I didn’t cry at the end like I normally do, I still marked a lot of passages and loved the characters but I didn’t have the same emotions quite like the other books I’ve read so far 😞 It was fun and easy to read with top tier banter as always but because of the miscommunication (that lasted waaay too long) it’s going to rank last for now.
