reason it's not a 5 is because i don't really enjoy the misscomunciation, and because i wished the leads would've gotten a bit more time together. the book itself isn't really soley a romance book, its so many relationships and generally the concept of 'home', and that makes it really cozy. i also wish
parth had more of a role in the book, other than just being Sabrina's partner

Was it kind of predictable? Yes. Was it still poignantly thought-provoking and made me cry? Also yes…

I also just don’t like the “fake relationship” trope much. It was a little different here since it was more of a “we didn’t tell them we broke up” situation but still…

I thought this book dragged on for so long honestly struggled to finish it. I think some scenes were really impactful hence the 3.25 stars but as a whole I think it could have gotten to the point faster and done a little more show instead of telling rather than over explaining the message of the book idk

This is a sweet story of friendship and romantic love. The overarching plot deals with a couple that has broken up, but is still in love. Subplots include how friendships grow and change and how nuclear family dynamics affect adult relationships, both friendships and romantic relationships. It’s also a story about finding and valuing the true you.

Ok, I really liked this one although it made me GRUMPY cause everyone had so many feelings and just KEPT THEM TO THEMSELVES RATHER THAN TALKING THEM OUT LIKE REGULAR PEOPLE.

I loved the friendship dynamic in this between all the characters and going back in time with them to relive their best memories and getting a deeper understanding of their love and friendships.

My biggest let down came from the MMC.

Wyn was a bit of a doofus. I liked him for his humour and his deep love for her, but boy did that man just hate himself. I don’t like how much he talked down on himself and undermined his own intelligence and just put everything she had or did on a pedestal in comparison to himself. Really was off putting.

ALSO their breakup was bullshit. Your fiancée calls you in a panic to tell you her coworker makes a move on her and rather than checking if SHES OK, you take it as her cheating on you and immediately break it off in a 4 minute phone call and send all her stuff back? AFTER BEING TOGETHER FOR 8 YEARS?! She’s in a huge city BY HERSELF with a high stress job, no friends or family around to comfort her through it, and you don’t have the balls to actually say it to her face or THINK about it a little tiny bit? REALLY shitty of him.

I absolutely love Emily Henry’s writing, the way she describes things is so beautiful and the way she gives me waves of happy nostalgia that isn’t even my own is astounding. A book of hers that isn’t necessarily my fav is still an absolute joy.

So sad I don’t have any other books of hers to read until next year!

So many of the characters experienced growth - it was really cool to see. I loved how reflective some of it was.

I did like this one despite a few things. First, it's centered around this party-like atmosphere that I just can't relate to, and it seems like Henry can't either. It makes it to where there's not a ton of interesting content where there is description about this friend group. There are definitely some funny and heartwarming scenes, but they seem like they should be happening to and filtered through young adults, like 18-24 year-olds (while they are all late 20s/early 30s). I like the themes of found family and moving on from a nostalgic past, but again, there wasn't much substance in their relationships.

On that note, Sabrina is toxic and annoying. She does frustrating things or says mean/manipulative comments enough in the book that she actually didn't even seem like a good person to me.

Also, I was 70% in before I felt I wasn't confused anymore. I don't like the flipping back to the past thing, mostly because it makes it to where you don't understand the context of these 2 main characters' issues with one another and supposed reasons they can't be together. It did end up with a nice conclusion, but again, I'd rather have an enjoyable read for longer than have just an impactful ending.

I give Julia Whelan 5/5⭐️'s.
