I want to like this series so much but it’s getting harder and harder to. The witchcraft is the only thing that keeps me coming back and Xena. That’s it. I want so much for Hunter and Mercy to reunite but both are too stubborn to listen to the other and they keep slinging around the word selfish. They’re both being assholes to each other when they need to work together to deal with Amphitrite.

I'm honestly only continuing to find out how it ends. Though this one was better than the first.

I couldn't even finish the first book in the series! I won this on during goodreads giveaway thinking it was the first one. I apologize for the mistake.

Thank you to Wednesday Books and Netgalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
3 Stars!
I want to start by saying I loved these authors and their House of Night Series! Like absolutely adored it. I liked Spells Trouble alright. But one thing I have realized is these books aren’t for me. At times it was challenging to push through certain parts. Omens Bite picks up immediately after Spells Trouble. I was thrilled to receive this ARC and I’m still excited because these are some of my favorite authors!! However, I did struggle to finish this book. I felt like the characters and the story was going 100 different directions. I felt we seen very little character growth and more of a backslide. To be brutally honest, I do not see myself reading these ever again. These books are not for me. The authors are some of my favorites, I do feel however that these books were not up to par with House of Night and the Otherworld Series.

First off- thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this advanced readers copy! All thoughts and opinions are my own unpaid review.
So in the beginning I honestly didn’t notice this was a second book in a series- so once I read the first one, I was able to catch on to the second. Omens Bite leaves off from the first, and while it’s a fast book, the character development is leaving … little to be desired. The conversations between most of the characters seem to be cringey- but the epilogue makes me want to read the next, so I will. Overall thankful for a chance to read this- I haven’t read much from PC cast and the last time I did was maybe 10 years ago- their writing style is only going up! Thanks NetGalley!

Mercy and Hunter are adrift. Their mother is dead, they’re fighting, and the whole town of Goodeville seems to have turned against them. Hunter isn’t too sure about her new Goddess, Amphitrite, either. Both witches are scrambling against time, trying to figure out how to heal the tree guardians that protect the gates to other realms.
This was…a decent sequel to Spells Trouble. Mercy and Hunter still have a lot of growing up to do, which is odd considering they’re 17 year old witches. I guess witches aren’t good with talking about their feelings, either. They just felt a lot younger in this book, but that could be because of their childish jealousy and fights.
If you have enjoyed other PC and Kristen Cast you will recognize their distinctive cadence and writing styles, carrying the storyline along at frantic pacing at times. A solid addition to their library, and finishing this book you’ll be howling for book 3!

I liked Omens Bite so much better than spells trouble. There was a lot more of a story to me in this novel. The sisters are at odds and there is no build up to the story since it picked up where the first novel ended. However I found some chapters more enjoyable than others. The Mercy point of view chapters made me really hesitate continuing the novel. She just acts like a self absorbed brat. While this is part of the story and meant to be part of her traits but it was making the story really hard to read at times. I really enjoyed hunter’s chapters better.
Mercys character is very self-centered and likes to be the “pot calling the kettle black”. Everything Hunter did was wrong and no one could tell her differently. This really started to wreck this series for me because it was too over the top.
Hunters chapters were so much more enjoyable and had so much more happening. There was action and suspense where mercys were mostly complaining about Hunter. Hunters character however shows how important boundaries are. She really stands up for herself in this story and I loved it.
Overall I really want to enjoy these books more than I do as a whole. I really feel like Hunters chapters saved this novel for me. I would have had to mark it as a did not finish if it wasn’t for those. Instead I’m excited for the next novel especially with the cliffhanger ending this one had. I feel like it redeemed itself at the end.
Audiobook Review
I only listened to a few chapters of the audiobook. I didn’t feel the narrators voice fit the characters that well. The voice used for Mercy sounded too valley girl for me. I found the print version better for this reason alone.

So I was gifted this book from @wednesdaybooks for my honest review.
I read the first book and sadly I didn’t love it. However I was excited for this book in hopes that the storyline would progress enough to grab me. Sadly that wasn’t the case. I struggled to get into it. I just wasn’t invested enough in what was going on. I truly wished that I was. The cover is gorgeous as well as the idea of the story but there were things for me that kept me from really being submerged.
I am sure that there are readers out there that will love this book. If you have read the first book your going to want to find out what’s going to happen to these sisters. Lies will come to the surface to reveal their truth. The sisters must accept each other for who they are or they will never be able to save themselves let alone the world.
In short:
Did I like it? Not really.
Would I recommend it? If you like these authors then yes.
Would I read more by these authors ? No
