Finally a bit of an explanation for the plague. The trip to the past was a bit stilted but it could be worse. In the present the plot isn't moved along hardly at all, but we have a bit of an adventure at the dam. It was fairly readable but it felt a little short, a little thin. But not bad. 3.5 of 5.

stuff is slowly starting to uncover! i love how the artstyle differs slightly when it tells from different perspectives, even though i don’t really like the styles sometimes.(like in the journal of the taxidermist). the portrayal of the inuit characters felt kind of weird as they didn’t have much a role beyond being the ones around the white guy which is…interesting. as we learn about the origin of the hybrids we also remember that a white man’s audacity knows no bounds.

definitely a tense and stressful volume for the characters so i went through through the latter half super fast.

A maddening twist backward in time to tell another story and paint a backdrop for the finale. This book started a little slow but has really built a great story and universe with lots of characters!

The first issue of this collection starts off on a different tack entirely, but it reminded me of the t.v. show lost. It is now offering you some answers as to what this plague might be. But it also raises some more questions. One is left wondering how these stories might link up in the final volume. Great action in this one as a few new characters are introduced and Sweet Tooth introduces his own minor brand of ass-kicking.

The three parter here recalls some of the colonial horror of The Terror, while the main story at hand has some plot to muscle through even as the twists and turns are still well-done. Lemire's characters are often "sinners" and just plain evil, but their faith in some kind of God or morality makes them deeply human and hard not to care about.
