Han Kang on upea kirjailija, Nobelinsa ansainnut todella!

Aivan upea!

We Do Not Part is unbelievably, spectacularly beautiful. Han's writing, her pacing, the slow unspooling of characters and their stories - it's all perfect. It's quite visual and sensory, and it unfolds like watching an arthouse film, though I think any attempt to capture it in film would fall short.

I adore everything Han Kang writes but I think this is my new favorite. I research and write history and have often paid attention more to what my mom says is “all your depressing stuff”. Which is true, my research is grim and never close to a happy read. So with that, this book really stuck a chord with me. Between that and the actual subject matter,  I balled my eyes out.
I don’t think this book is for everyone, it’s a slow build and is very ambiguous. Additionally, it describes the harrowing details of massacres and junta rule, so a huge trigger warning for that. But if you can, I would definitely recommend this, the writing is beautiful and the emotions Han conveys and evokes from you are incredible. I loved this book and can’t wait to reread it.

This was heart-breaking historical fiction, about an era in Korean history that I’d never known about. It’s a very cerebral book; non-linear and dreamlike. I can’t say I loved it, but it was moving.

This is a powerful, dreamy book about a horrific history. I’m pretty sure I didn’t understand what was happening a lot of the time, but I think at least part of that confusion was the point.
