Normal people say, I can't imagine feeling so bad I'd genuiney want to die. I do not try and explain that it isn't that you want to die. It is that you know you are not supposed to be alive, feeling a tiredness that powders your bones, a tiredness with so much fear. The unnatural fact of living is something you must eventually fix.

Could not recommend this book enough if I tried.

I picked this up on a whim and I think it's one of my favourite reads from 2022. I found myself relating a lot to the main character Martha and it made me feel emotional to read. This book just gets mental illness right without having to put a label on it. I really loved it.

As someone who has suffered through mental illness & suffered through neglect because of someone else’s mental illness; this was a very uncomfortable, yet accurate, portrayal of seeing both sides. When the spouse was finally able to speak, the relief was palpable. This book will always make me remember to consider my actions, & to hold myself accountable. You’ll never be able to control others & their responses; the only thing you can control is your response to them & to everything around you.

I thought this was a great audio listen, but it's not for everyone. There are several reviews that compare it to Fleabag, which is a show that I love, but it's just similar in some ways.
