oh well, it became my favourite Shakespeare's play.

such an interesting tragedy!
for me, the scenes with cleopatra were so much better than the politics of mark antony's side of this play. i loved the party scene! but other than that it is the female domain that intrigues me here.
there are moment when cleopatra and antony seem to profoundly in love ... and then antony goes and marries octavia (and treats her terribly) or believes ridiculous rumours. not a massive fan of him.
something this play does really well is death. both antony and cleopatra's deaths were wonderfully written, and they both died with honour and majesty.
all the roman soldiers blended into one. as usual in the roman plays lol
cleopatra's wit is wonderful. she's like a female character from a comedy transferred into a tragedy, able to speak for herself. she is the queen of egypt, after all. love it

Surprisingly boring even with the gay and trans subtext. I think if I wasn't into this period of literature, I would not really like this one...
