Lovely, and very typical Shakespeare. Antony's a bit dumb in the Romeo way. -rolls eyes-

I very much enjoyed Antony and Cleopatra. I am not a huge history buff so I did some light contextual reading before jumping in, which helped immensely to understand what was going on. The characterisation of Cleopatra was very nicely done; the uncertainty of her feelings towards Antony through the very end is so well done and remains ambiguous to this day. I was sucked in to the tense war between Caesar and Antony as well as the war of wills between Antony and Cleopatra. Everything was so nicely done, I can't wait to see this play acted out to really get a sense of how Shakespeare intended the play to be seen.

Reading this book I finally understood how those dark romantasy girlies feel about their brooding elf princes or whatever the fuck. Well, no, I didn't, lol, but I feel like they'd get a kick out of Antony and Cleopatra. Messy af, abandoning wars for each other, blatantly lying to get each other jealous and then killing themselves, cheating on each other, but it was compelling as hell. I loved that all the other Roman guys gave Antony shit for being whipped by his mistress or whatever and not being an alpha male anymore. It made him seem cool to be honest
