To reach the end of your life and wish you had time for a few other roads — what could be more human?

I'm such a sucker for women's coming of age novels. It took me a little while to fully connect to the story, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. Bertino's writing is dazzling, as equally funny as it is devastating. Despite being an alien, Adina is such a relatable protagonist, and she explores the very human emotions of love, joy, and grief in such a quietly profound way. While I don't think this will Beautyland will be everyone's cup of tea, I adored it.

I had no idea what to expect when I picked this up, and it completely caught me off guard in the best way. This book was a breath of fresh air after a month of misses. It's clever, original, and deeply funny. One of those stories that makes you think about humanity in a completely new light. I genuinely didn’t want it to end.
