i honestly enjoyed this a lot! this was so niche, yet exactly what i wanted a queer horror book to be! i enjoy classic horror movies (i genuinely liked friday the 13th) AND i like women! 10/10! win - win situation! it might have not been a perfect book. i think that i would only change that one plot twist but generally speaking — the tension was there, the suspense was there, the setting was intriguing, the characters were mostly fleshed out well, the gore was there, the “secret society” was too much illuminati/conspiracy theorist too me but i WAS rooting for the lesbians!! let's go lesbians!!! lets go!!! (also this is like the the first book that i have finished this fast in a while so it has to mean something!)

There were a couple of fun creepy moments around the halfway mark, but otherwise this was just bad. The escape room camp theme is abandoned after only one round and seems to only exist to make sure there are no kids at the summer camp. The characters are really bland - I kept forgetting Paige even existed until other people brought her up - and the 'plot twist' was goofy and borderline offensive.

Unfortunately the biggest sin to me in a slasher, aside from maybe the first two the kills were boring. A good slasher should be about over the top people being killed in over the top ways and this was just like "oh he's dead I guess".

An overall good read let down by a rushed ending.

I am concerned about parallels to antisemitic conspiracy theories (blood libel) in the direction the plot takes later on.

Very fun YA slasher, second half is definitely stronger than the first half though. Had some unexpected twists and turns and good characters, although my favourite two did die. RIP.

The first few pages had a fews cases of "you've just said this word and now it's all I can focus on" moments, which had me a bit worried. For example, on page 1 it says "the moon is just a silver sliver hanging in the sky" and page 2 says "reflecting the silvery sliver of moon in the sky"--it's a nice big of alliteration, but it does not need to happen twice in the span of twenty lins. Really took me out of the story, which is not when you want, especially in the first two pages. But I read on, and ended up liking the story just fine overall.

Also, love the name Sheriff Lillard. I see what you did there Kalynn, very fun 🧐❤️

This book is perfect if you love 90's slasher movies. I feel like this author really is showing off some writing  skills with this book. I connected with each character and was laughing like i was one of the friends in the group. I didn't want anyone to die.     I can't believe all the twist's in this book , even though it was only a little over 200 pages. This is a perfect summer slasher book , and i might even read it again in the fall.
