I was very meh on this book until THE TWIST. I should have seen it coming but I didn’t and that is the magic that makes a good thriller.
This is definitely a slow burn. Unlike normal thrillers, Joann Chaney didn’t have me hooked from the very beginning which normally would make me say that it didn’t live up to the number one thriller genre prerequisite. However, this feels completely deliberate on the part of Chaney. She wants us as readers to wonder how the hell this book is over 300 pages. And then bam, a twist i can now spot from a million miles away that somehow I didn’t see coming.
