I loved that this book brought a lot of practical ideas and biblical wisdom to a topic that we tend to unnecessarily over complicate. Dating matters and is important, of course, but it really is so much more simple than we often think. JP is pretty direct in his approach and very black and white when it comes to his advice. I like this type of communication, but also understand that it’s not for everyone! I think especially when it comes to singleness, dating, and engagement, either you’re pursuing holiness or you’re not. We can make excuses and try to justify our wrong actions. Or, we can consistently seek to glorify the Lord by living above reproach in every area of our lives. So, the black and white communication seemed fitting for the context. I didn’t feel like there was anything super profound or crazy, but would argue that it’s a must-read for anyone that’s unmarried. It’s only going to make you better!

As a Christian in 2023, I find it difficult to navigate this dating world. Not only does Pokluda provide advice through both personal stories and scripture, but he does so in a way that's easy to understand. I feel as though I gained a new perspective on how to date in the 21st century. I also enjoyed how Pokluda himself admits that he isn't a perfect Christian and has made his own mistakes in the past. It's a breath of fresh air to reading a relationship book written by a Christian who isn't at all judgemental.
