Molly Knox Ostertag is one of those people for me. I'll probably read everything she touches.

This was a fun read for me. Speculative fiction - another planet or far in the distant future Earth where everything has new names. Another planet's residents have taken over and now oppress this planet's native population. We meet a young person who works in a factory, meets some new people, rebels & gets guerilla active, finds love. Pretty yummy, great full-color illustrations.

Erica brings some points up about the skin-tones of the primary characters that ring true to me.

I dug it, though.

While this graphic novel does include a lot of tropes, the facts that 1) it’s the first sci fi graphic novel I’ve read and 2) Ostertag’s art is phenomenal saved it from being a 3/5 star read. Such a heart-wrenching yet hopeful story, and….. did I mention the art?!

Picked it up because I'm a big Molly Ostertag fan. Great worldbuilding, but a disappointing story.

100% borrowed this because of Molly Knox Ostertag. (highly recommend The Witch Boy series!) Her art is fun and distinctive. This was a very different story, darker and steering towards some adult themes.

This was a very dystopian story. Human vs aliens. Wish it was a series as it would have been nice to get to know more about the war and what had happened exactly. And I would have liked to see more development between the different relationships.

Like cool she gets to be reunited with her niece and I know nothing about this kid. The niece is just... around until she's useful for their plan at the very end because she's the smallest of the group. That's.. that's literally her whole purpose.

The romance aspect was rather lackluster. It felt rather unnecessary.

I liked the story though. I would be up for more stories in this world.

Hmmmmmm post-apocalypse civilizations AND aliens? Sign me up! Class issues, survival stories, rebellion plotting, and luuurve as an added bonus. I hope this is, in fact, a series and that the continuing story is as good as it's opening venture. More please!

3 stars for Shattered Warriors!

A beautiful graphic novel that I picked up at my library just for the heck of it. Thought it was good, not overly incredible but the flashback scene had such beautiful artwork, I wanted to see more. All in all, it was a good fast read with an interesting enough story.
