The Tommyknockers

Stephen King

3.3 AVERAGE

This felt like the longest book in the world. I would have abandoned it, but I spent an Audible credit on it and felt obligated to finish it. I usually enjoy King's characters, but did not care for any here. I will say the narration was well done, but that's the only positive thing I can say about this book.
Loveable characters: Complicated
adventurous dark mysterious slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Overall, I liked the story but it starts off really slow once you're about a third of the way through It picks up and becomes quite interesting.

One of my lifetime reading goals is to get through all of the Stephen King novels (aside from the fantasy genre ones). I did not realize this one was science fiction, and it was really hard to stay interested and focused on the numerous characters. Felt similar to reading The Stand, another one that is not horror. I definitely prefer his horror/mystery/thriller over this type. The longest it has taken me to get through a book in a while.

3.5 stars. It was good, but this could have been half the length
slow-paced

Is it good? Not so much. Did I still enjoy reading it? Yup.

dark funny mysterious tense medium-paced

I think King needs to stay away from the 'candy'. This book was utter crap. It started off with some great ideas and then went way off the edge. I did mange to finish it but I found myself skimming pages and saying "WTF?" a lot. Most of this book is just drivel. 'The phone rang, that was all. Rang and rang and rang and rang. "Your party doesn't answer." the operator told him. Just in case he was deaf or maybe had forgotten what he was doing for a few seconds and had been holding the phone against his ASSHOLE instead of his ear.'
