adventurous informative sad slow-paced

I listened to this book as an advance listening copy via @Libro.fm. Honestly, the premise of this one worked a lot better than the execution. I didn't enjoy the narrator, though I guess he did have the grizzled old storyteller voice thing down. I did also like the way the author gave his thesis and scope in the first chapter--I really like when authors give a structure and scope for their stories for readers to structure their read. However, I think that was a disservice in this case, because I don't think the author delivered. A majority of this book is a play by play for the Battle of the Little Bighorn...with random side stories on other events like the James-Younger bank robbery, what was happening in Deadwood or random baseball season information. However, none of these things are tied together successfully and the balance was so off that it felt like a betrayal of the premise. This book may work for some, but I think a lot of people will be disappointed because of the imbalance.
