I rather enjoy the plot device of telling the same events of a previous book from the perspective of another character. Unlike [a: Orson Scott Card|589|Orson Scott Card|https://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1294099952p2/589.jpg]'s [b: Ender's Shadow|9532|Ender's Shadow (Ender's Shadow, #1)|Orson Scott Card|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1424904668s/9532.jpg|3145587], this book did not provide further character development of the protagonist from the previous book. Instead we get a much more personal take on the events from a vibrant but youthful teenage perspective. This book sated my curiosity about two of the dangling plot points from the previous book, and was a thoroughly entertaining installment in its own right.
Another great entry to the series. Started slow but finished fast and furious.

In the first hundred pages I wanted to give the book 3 stars, because so much material was a rehash of The Last Colony. I got to 4 stars around page 200 and 5 stars now. This is a great companion to TLC. Looking forward to The Human Division.
I liked it, thought it was a well done parallel tale that, as he mentioned in the author notes, seem to make the deus ex machine aspects of the original book more realistic. Much more teenage than his other books though.

I am glad i waited a long time to read this book. If I had read it right after The Last Colony I don't think I would have liked it as much. Fun read but still a little to familiar for me to just gush about.
Fun coming of age story of an intergalactic colonist on a colony targeted for extermination Brilliantly read by Tavia Gilbert.
