I loved it less than book 1 & 2.
It was different than the other books. All the characters are split up and it took me a little to get into everyone’s new and different circumstances of. But once I got into it, I really enjoyed it.
I loved Elloren’s journey of discovering her power and training. And I’m not gonna lie, I’ve always kind of preferred Lukas over Yvan because Lukas has an intensity that Yvan lacks in my opinion and I really enjoy an intense love interest. **Spoiler ahead*** I do wish that Elloren and Lukas getting together wasn’t because Yvan was dead. Lukas deserves so much more than that. And yeah, Elloren didn’t really take time to mourn Yvan but I didn’t personally mind that because I thought it was very weak that Yvan even agreed to be separated from Elloren.
Anyways, off to start the next book.

Do you like dragons? Do you like magic? Do you like warriors, elves, werewolves, and more? Well this might be a good series to add to your list. When I started this series I assumed it was young adult, but this book is starting to branch away from that with some spice. Now this is very calm spice, but boy was I for it. The main character also gets an upgrade in this book. She’s got a big secret. One everyone wants her dead for. She’s got to survive for the sake of her home and the people she loves. War is on the horizon. She’s chosen her side, but even that side wants her dead. It’s time for Elloren to stand up and be the person she was always meant to be. There is some world building in this book as you get to start to venture into new lands. I already got at least three ships going for people with all these new characters. Also, we got a man with nipple piercings. That’s all.
.
This book gives you a lot of information and a lot of new characters. This book is going to start off with POVs of characters you’ve never meet before and you’re probably going to be confused. They are important and you need to pay attention to them. The first half of this book, I felt was really getting to know our other characters, and some new people. What’s everyone up too after the last book? Where are they? How are they doing? Some of those questions are answered. The second half is all Elloren and her just trying to stay alive. Everyone wants her dead. She’s got a big secret on her shoulders and she’s doing everything she can to hide it. She’s thrust back into life with her fast mate, Lukas Grey. Nobody trusts her. His mother hates her. Fallon wants to kill her. Will Lukas help her survive?
.
The pacing is about the same as the rest of the books, but I felt this one did flow really well and didn’t skip around as much. The time period was basically within a month where the others have been longer. She does have a nice timeline in each chapter I really liked. I highly recommend checking out this next book.

Yes! This was the one I was waiting for. I liked the series but I didn't feel connected completely to the characters until this book. It was nice to see growth in the main character and actually see her become strong.
I loved experiencing the story from other characters in the story. We get to see what is going on with other characters rather than just Elloren. Plus, the romance in this book I could finally get behind. It was very fast but seemed so much better than the one we went through in the first two books. There is a major love triangle, but I am not on board with the first love interest. I actually have no idea how this will possibly be resolved in a good way long term in the series. For now I'm enjoying the ride.
Also Laurie Forest has a beautiful way with words. Her world building is exceptional and her prose is fantastic. I look forward to reading more of her work.

Wow! Dare I say this may be my favorite of the series?! The opening pages are very slow, but after that you won’t want to put this book down. So much drama and power! As the Black Witch, Elloren isn’t safe anywhere. Vogel wants her power to destroy Erthia and the rest of Erthia can’t trust the destruction of a Black Witch. Either route leads to hunting down Elloren. Her best chance for survival is allying with Lukas Grey for training and protection. Readers will enjoy watching Elloren develop her power and confidence. The romance has picked up in this book, which some readers will be head over heels to hear if it’s with Yvan or Lukas! Either way, fans of this series will not be disappointed!

The author definitely redeemed herself with this one! The second book was meh but this one had me hooked right from the start. The writing went right back to the way it was in the first book and once again I found myself completely enthralled.
