This will likely be my favorite book in the series because I LOVE Lukas Grey more than anything. He belongs with Elloren. They are a perfect match and their bond is deep. I really hope he survives but I have a feeling no one is safe in this story.

I wanted to give it a 4.5 stars, which is surprisingly high considering it had a slower pace compared to the first and second books. I don't rate books based on writing, plot, or whether they're character-driven—I base my rating purely on how much I enjoyed them. So that might say something.

When I feel sad that the magic in fantasy novels doesn’t exist the same way in our current world, I now will think of how grateful I am it doesn’t. The religious zealots would abuse it as they do in this series. They would corrupt minds, tamp down opposite opinions, and force their “only our ways are right and holy,” on as many as they could. The religious trauma and race violence would be even worse.
