28 jaar oud en dan dit relaas schrijven. Het is maar zelden dat een boek zo veel gevoel achter laat als je het uit hebt. De personages dwalen door mijn hoofd zoals ze ook door het boek rondzwierven. Met soms prachtige zinnen slingert Mbougbar Sarr je van verhaal naar verhaal. Voor lezers met een lange adem.

what a weird, fascinating, meta book. it's a lot about Africa and literature and African literature and the world of literary understanding; and it's also about colonialism and parents and children. just really fascinating.

boy am I a sucker for a literary investigation a book about a book about a story about a storyteller. beautifully written stunning translation and challenging themes

Uit. Ik moet dit boek nog even laten bezinken.

Het was zeker een onderhoudend boek wat hier en daar echt onder je huid kruipt.

Sowieso een ode aan het schrijversvak en zijn lezers.

Se não for para abalar a alma de uma pessoa, é melhor não escrever

Uma obra ciclíca cujo fim se confunde com o começo, estaria Diégane procurando por Elimane ou Elimane procurando por Diégane? No fim, nada dessa história engolfando décadas, amigos abandonados, filhas apátridas, vingança, feitiços, livros perdidos e autores mortos, faz alguma diferença, certo?

Jornada adentro por uma história de múltiplos narradores que sangram entre si mémorias tão vivas quanto os mortos presentes nelas, Diégane Faye, escritor senegalês estudando na frança, procura freneticamente pelo gênio conterrâneo imcompreendido T.C Elimane que fora perdido pela história; mais especificamente, ele procura por sua próxima grande obra, porém, por onde olha só é capaz de ver locutores que procuram por Elimane, a pessoa e falharam.

A escrita de Mohamed Mbougar Sarr oscila entre o cunho oral e métaforas longuíssimas - além de belas - que poderiam existir somente dentro de um romance. Esses estilos casam-se para questionar o verdadeiro motivo de um escrever, denunciar a violência escondida em silêncio, dar a luz às dores, loucuras e amores dos outros com uma elegância irresistível e humor inesperado.

É mais do que imprescindível enaltecer a ilustração brilhante da capa feita por Zansky, já que foi um prazer identificar as infindáveis referências uma por uma, além de ser uma linda representação dessa obra tulmutuosa e, sobretudo, viva.
